Sedum aizoon L. Aizoon; : from Gr. aei-zoon, the classical name for Sempervivum arboreum L. and some other Sedum species. It is derived from aei, always, and zoon, living, i.e. always living, everlasting. According to Dioscorides (q.v. Dioscorea L.) "it is so called because of the evergreen leaves", according others -but this seems less probably- it refers to the fact that these seculent plants will live under most circumstances.
